On Gary Sanchez
I’ve never been to Charleston before, but by all accounts from those who have, it seems like an interesting place. Interesting in that it looks kind of nice and important stuff happened there a long time ago. Big wars kind of important. It seems the kind of place you visit with the family, point to something old and war-ish looking and say “look, a lot of people died here a long time ago.”...

Postgame notes: “It’s strange to watch what we’ve watched”
The Yankees expect better than this from CC Sabathia. He’s their ace, and in his hands, a 2-0 lead in the seventh should be safe. It shouldn’t be coughed up on a pair of home runs — one of them on an 0-2 pitch to a guy who hadn’t homered all year — and on three-straigh walks, the last of which came with the bases loaded and put the Reds in front.
“It’s...

Quick injury updates: Jeter, Gardner and Teixeira
Derek Jeter
Hit in the left wrist by a bad hop in the ninth inning, Jeter was in obvious discomfort on the field — he took his glove off and kept shaking his hand — but he said all the things you’d expect in the clubhouse: He’s fine, it’s no problem and there’s nothing to be worried about.
“Hopefully it’s not a big deal, and he’ll be okay...

Reds 5, Yankees 2: Yankees Struggles Continue As Reds Take The Series
The Cincinnati Reds won their interleague series vs. the Yankees today, defeating the struggling Yanks 5-2. Johnny Cueto out dueled CC Sabathia, and the Reds offense got the job done when necessary, while the Yankees offense could not.
CC Sabathia was fantastic through six innings, surrendering only two hits, but the seventh inning spelled doom for the hefty lefty. Ryan Ludwick and Todd Frazier each...

Yankees and Sabathia let one get away
A pitching duel took turn this afternoon ehrn CC Sabathia walked three straight batters in the seventh inning, giving the Reds the go-ahead run on their way to a 5-2 win at Yankee Stadium. Sabathia was pitching a shutout, and the Yankees had just taken a two-run lead before the Reds scored three runs in the seventh. Two came on solo home runs, and the third came at the end of those...

Pregame notes: The Grandy Man can (play every day)
Joe Girardi has started Alex Rodriguez at designated hitter 11 times this year. He’s put Robinson Cano at DH twice. He’s given Derek Jeter one full day off and six half days.
But Curtis Granderson has played every single inning in center field.
It’s odd for Girardi, who is sometimes labeled as overly cautious when it comes to resting his players. He was hesitant...
